FIFA Council approved a women’s international match calendar for 2026-29, reducing from six to five in the number of windows: two nine-day windows (May-June and October) and three 12-day windows (February-March, April, and November-December). The net effect will be the same number of game dates but more games on weekends.

First Women’s Club World Cup set for 2026

It also proposed the first Women’s Club World Cup to be contested by 16 teams in January-February 2026, long before any NWSL teams entered in the tournament will have begun their seasons. Concacaf will be the last  confederation to organize a regional women’s club championship, launching an 11-team tournament with three NWSL teams to wind up with a final four in May 2025.
