After winning the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) Supporters’ Shield and establishing themselves as the top team for the entire 2024 MLS regular season, Inter Miami CF has become the penultimate club to guarantee a spot at the next FIFA Club World CupTM.
Inter Miami’s exceptional and dependable 34-match season, which saw them win the shield with two MLS matches remaining, qualifies them as the host country representative team. In addition, Inter Miami will serve as the tournament’s host team and represent their home city of Miami in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025TM opening match.
This year, Inter Miami—led by FIFA World CupTM winner Lionel Messi—broke the record for the most points in a single season in MLS history. They finished the 2024 campaign with 74 points, having won 22 games, drawn eight, and only lost four, from February to October.
Following Inter Miami’s last MLS regular season match versus New England Revolution at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night, FIFA President Gianni Infantino made the announcement during a fan and team celebration.
The FIFA President remarked, “We all know how Miami is in love with football and how Inter Miami is supported from across Florida and beyond for your exciting brand of football.” “Congratulations on the fantastic success of your 2024 Supporters’ Shield campaign. You have demonstrated that you are always the greatest team on the field in the United States.
As a result, I’m happy to declare that you, one of the greatest clubs on the planet, will be playing in the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup 2025 as the host team representing the United States. The FIFA President also declared in front of La Familia and a large number of the club’s ardent supporters that the worldwide club showcase of the next year will begin in the Magic City.
Infantino continued, “We are excited that you will be hosting the inaugural match in Miami on Sunday, June 15, 2025. “With the tournament featuring the top 32 clubs worldwide and offering a new chance for clubs, players, coaches, and fans to share their stories with the world, it’s sure to be a great celebration for global club football.”
Now that Inter Miami’s participation has been confirmed, 31 of the 32 teams who will compete in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 have committed. The 2024 CONMEBOL Libertadores final, which is scheduled for November 30, 2024, in Buenos Aires, will decide the remaining slot. This way, the whole roster of teams will be known prior to the December 2024 draw. Four legendary clubs from South America are still hoping to join the fun in the United States next year.
The FIFA Club World Cup 2025, which features 32 clubs from all over the world, is the most inclusive and merit-based international club competition. It gives the top clubs in Oceania, Africa, Asia, Central and North America, and Oceania the chance to compete against the dominant clubs in Europe and South America.
