FIFA awards hosting of the 2027 Women's World Cup to Brazil – Inside World Football

May 17 – Confederation of Brazilian Football (CBF) president Ednaldo Rodrigues has called the choice of Brazil as host for the 2027 Women’s World Cup a “victory for the women’s game’.
In the Thai capital, Brazil won the FIFA Congress vote 118-79 to land the hosting rights to the 2027 finals, seeing off the European triumvirate of Belgium, Netherlands and Germany whose European bid was marked lower by FIFA’s bid evaluation. From that moment on, Brazil were favoured to win the bidding race.
“We had a lot of conviction in our work,” said Rodrigues at a news conference after the winners had been announced.
“We don’t just go out asking for votes. Firstly, we offered FIFA the answers that were required. And, on a 5-point scale, Brazil had the best score of 4. The competitor had a score of 3.7. This work got it for Brazil.”
Those comments came after he had said on stage that the vote for Brazil was “a victory for the world and for the women’s game.” It will be the first time that the Women’s World Cup will be staged in South America. The United States, Canada, Sweden, Germany, France, China and Australia and New Zealand were the hosts of the previous editions of the tournament.

The 2027 finals will be the second time the Women’s World Cup has featured 32 teams. Brazil proposed ten venues, stadiums that were all used during the 2014 World Cup, the last major tournament that the country hosted: Beira-Rio (Porto Alegre), Arena Corinthians (São Paulo), Maracanã (Rio de Janeiro), Mineirão (Belo Horizonte), Fonte Nova (Salvador), Arena Pernambuco (Recife), Arena Castelão (Fortaleza), Arena Amazonas (Manaus), Arena Pantanal (Cuiabá), Mané Garrincha (Brasília).
“The sporting concept, far beyond the 64 games, of the country, of the continent,” said Valesca Araujo, the executive in charge of operations and infrastructure in the Brazilian bid. “It’s the moment for women’s football in Brazil and South America. It’s the potential of the region. We have a lot to develop. There is a lot of space for sponsors, for anyone who wants to develop.”
“We had the legacy of 2014, the stadiums, the expertise. The world likes to go to Brazil and we are ready to welcome the world.”
