Today saw FC Barcelona visited by official 2030 FIFA World Cup (FWC2030) bid team members, who took a tour around the Club’s installations and were able to see the progress being made on the Spotify Camp Nou works in detail. The current stage of the bid sees the delegation making a series of visits to each of their proposed stadiums in order to gather all the information FIFA requires, who will examine them thoroughly before a decision is made.
FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta led the welcoming party and was joined by the Club’s Vice-president for the Institutional Area Elena Fort, and the Councillor for Sport from Barcelona City Council David Escudé. The Club opened its doors to the bid committee, comprising members from the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and the Portuguese Football Federation, who will have to present their bid to FIFA before the summer, given the host cities and match scheduling need to be decided towards the end of the year. Representatives from the National Sports Council and the Catalan Football Federation were also in attendance.
The tour began at the recently opened FC Barcelona sales office, where Espai Barça operations director Joan Sentelles showed everyone the model of the future Spotify Camp Nou and explained what commercial offers will be available at the new Stadium. It then moved on to Auditori 1899, where there was a technical presentation of Espai Barça, with an explanation of all the details regarding the refurbishment of the new blaugrana home, which they went on to see first-hand via a visit to the works.
In conjunction with Barcelona City Council, the Club has stated their unwavering commitment to wanting to host the final from the outset, with work continuing towards that goal.
