29th November 2024 – (Xiamen) During the World Cup qualifying match between China and Japan on 19th November, a mainland Chinese fan gained notoriety for storming the pitch at Xiamen’s Egret Stadium. The incident, which occurred in the 33rd minute of the first half, saw the individual removing his shirt and provoking Japanese goalkeeper Ayaka Suzuki, prompting a brief interruption of the game.
Security personnel swiftly apprehended the fan, identified only as Wu, and he was subsequently subjected to a ten-day administrative detention by local authorities. In addition to this penalty, Wu has been fined 500 RMB (approximately HK$544) and banned from entering any sporting venue for the next year.
The match concluded with Japan securing a 3-1 victory over China, despite the disruption.
