Kylian Mbappe opened a can of worms last week with his statement on the Euros. The newly announced Real Madrid star claimed the European competition was tougher than the FIFA World Cup, leaving the fans stunned. His views came across as outrageous and the player did receive some support from pundits. However, ex-MLS star Ale Moreno was having none of it and he cross-countered the Frenchman’s claims.
Ale Moreno disputed Kylian Mbappe on ESPN’s Daily Recap, stating, “I’m not surprised Kylian Mbappe is making this sort of comment. It’s not the first time he has made Eurocentric or biased comments. Regardless, I’m not gonna address Kylian Mbappe, but a few of the things that were said.”

“The whole idea that you just basically say this little group here in Europe, we got the talent right here. The rest of the world doesn’t matter. It’s a very insular view of the world. The rest of the world plays this game and plays it at a very high level. There are many talented players outside of Europe. And if you think there aren’t many talented players outside Argentina and Brazil.

“Just ask Germany, who did they lose in the World Cup to? Japan. Ask Spain and Portugal, who did they lose to. Morocco. So listen, the game is also played outside Europe and is played at a high level,” he concluded. Mbappe’s comments do not come off as a surprise, as the player has been vocal when it comes to soccer outside Europe. In 2022, he claimed South American teams were not prepared for the World Cup in comparison to European teams who win it all the time. Argentina then silenced France in the WC finals and Messi lifted the title in front of his eyes. Talk about payback!
Ale Moreno isn’t the only one who’s called out the Frenchman for his recent comments. Just hours after Kylian commented on the quality of teams in the Euros and World Cup, Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez responded to the comment stating there’s nothing tougher than winning the World Cup and everyone knows that. Mbappe’s former PSG teammate and Albiceleste star Leandro Paredes also reacted to the comments, adding Kylian Mbappe can say what he wants but we all know the World Cup is the toughest.
Well, it seems like the Argentine stars aren’t willing to let the issue down, with fans also supporting their claims. Kylian Mbappe’s comments about Europe’s dominance over the sport haven’t sat down well, especially with South American fans who are more than willing to let the player know of his mistake.
