Will Mikaela Shiffrin's quest for 100 victories define her legacy or expose her limits?
On October 26, the skiing community eagerly anticipated witnessing history in the Austrian city of Sölden, with stars like Aleksander Aamodt Kilde present. After all, Alpine ski racing legend Mikaela Shiffrin was on the verge of a major milestone—100 World Cup victories. A win on Saturday would have brought her closer, marking her 98th victory. However, the script took an unexpected turn. While Shiffrin’s American team made history at the opening event of the 2024 FIS Ski World Cup, she ultimately fell short of topping the chart.
Shiffrin’s fifth-place finish, coupled with her teammates’ exceptional performances, brought the American squad its best result in this competition in 39 years—a promising start to the season. However, her pursuit of the personal milestone continues. The next event on the FIS Ski World Cup 2024 calendar is right around the corner, and it’s set to take place at a venue where Shiffrin has excelled in the past. So, where’s the next stop? Let’s dive into the details of this anticipated event and see if it might be Shiffrin’s moment to edge closer to her 100th World Cup victory.

The next stop on the FIS Ski World Cup 2024 circuit heads to Levi, Lapland, where the season’s slalom events will kick off on the famous Levi Black course. Known as an ideal venue to start the slalom season, Levi Black has long held a cherished spot among fans and athletes. This year brings added excitement, as it marks the return of the men’s competition to Levi after a four-year absence—a decision by the International Ski Federation (FIS) that has thrilled local fans and organizers alike. Adding to the fanfare, this upcoming event promises not only the thrill of competition but also a festive atmosphere as Levi hosts top skiers eager to make their mark early in the season.
The event of World Cup Levi will touch its 20th year this time by hosting the slalom opening race in Lapland. In its long, rich history, the event in the Finnish mountain town has surged in popularity. Furthermore, the scenic landscape has filled the participants’ hearts with joy. And yes! There’s a special celebration at the venue this time to commemorate the anniversary. Wouldn’t those all add to the palpable excitement? Let me break down another.
Last year, Mikaela Shiffrin took the fourth position on the first day of the World Cup Levi. But the next day (November 12), she came back stronger and achieved the top seat in the chart. Will she do this time again? What did you think? But let’s check the dates first.

This season, both men’s and women’s slalom racers will gather in Levi to officially launch the slalom circuit. On November 16, Mikaela Shiffrin and the women will kick off the two-day event, followed by the men’s competition on November 17. In a slight shift from last year, when the FIS calendar placed the event on November 11 and 12, the races went off without a hitch, setting high expectations for another smooth run this year. And for fans eager to catch the action, whether at the venue or on-screen, comprehensive viewing arrangements are in place to ensure no one misses out.
