“We do a lot less than England, Spain, and Germany,” says Emma Hayes while underlining the weakness of the US Women’s National Team. Such a claim comes from someone, who may have spent more than decades coaching Chelsea and winning 16 trophies, but has no real experience on the international front up until now, where her arrival within a couple of months saw the American ladies win the Olympic gold medal.
So it’s clear that the States has room for improvement in developing its nation’s approach to the beautiful game. Moreover, it demands a certain level of commitment to remain competitive against formidable European nations. Lucky for Americans, Hayes has plans for the nation. After the 2024 Paris Olympic gold triumph, the manager is set to shift her focus to the next World Cup qualification, implementing a sheer process aimed at further strengthening the country’s soccer system.
When asked what’s her next step with the American ladies during her exclusive chat with Sky Sports, she began, “Qualifying for the World Cup is critical but to qualify for the World Cup there’s a process for that. Developing the strategy that we’re building in the background not just for our senior national team but youth national team.”

Towards the end of 2024, US Soccer was handed a significant boost in their efforts to uplift their nation’s women’s program. They earned a $30 million cheque from Michelle Kang, an American businesswoman, philanthropist, investor, and owner of multiple professional sports teams in the name of further developing the next young generation of the Stars and Stripes ft. ladies.

“Hopefully, with a donation from Michelle Kang, we have the opportunity to develop the program that will give the opportunities for our young players and put in place a framework and a system around the team so that the US can be competing for many, many years,” added the 48-year-old tactician.
Looks like Hayes is more than just focused on leading the USWNT to the next World Cup. Simultaneously, the former Chelsea boss aims to cement a solid foundation for the female soccer system that automatically serves the purpose of helping the nation contest against rival and top-ranked nations. Then again, there’s a catch to this that Hayes wants everyone to understand!

If the English tactician can lead a heartbroken USWNT side to Olympic glory in a couple of months, there’s no way fans haven’t kept their expectations from her to help the 4x World Champions regain their good old days glory. “I don’t think you can do that,” explained Hayes, denying the thought of making the U.S. a dominant side like never before.
“I think you can just put something together so that you can be as competitive as possible and that’s my aim,” added the ex-WSL manager. There is indeed a lot in store for the US Women’s National Team before they even think about making the next World Cup. It remains to be seen how Emma Hayes will turn out to be the pioneer in bringing this change!
