Syracuse, N.Y. — Wyatt Bowman, an elite lacrosse recruit, has verbally committed to the Orange football team, reversing a pledge to play men’s lacrosse at North Carolina.
Verbal commitments are not binding until a player has signed a National Letter of Intent in December.
Bowman is a tight end prospect in football who, according to the website 247Sports, had scholarship offers from UMass, Delaware and Towson. He plays both sports for Georgetown Preparatory School in Bethesda, Maryland. The school regularly produces Division I prospects in both sports.
Bowman told Syracuse.com via text message he had committed to the Syracuse football program. He said he was coming to Syracuse on a football scholarship and that he’d start his career playing only football for the Orange.
Bowman is listed by Inside Lacrosse as a four-star recruit and the No. 20 prospect in the Class of 2025. He plays midfield in lacrosse.
According to the football recruiting website 247Sports, Bowman attended football camp at Syracuse last weekend.
Bowman is not graded in the 247Sports composite rankings. He is listed by 247Sports as a three-star prospect who is 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds. The website lists him as the No. 70 tight end prospect in the country and the No. 36 prospect in Maryland.
Bowman is the Orange’s 21st commitment in the Class of 2025 and the second commitment Syracuse has received over the past two days.
Syracuse’s collection of commitments is ranked No. 14 in the country by 247Sports, a ranking helped by the high number of commits in the class. The Orange’s class includes one four-star and 20 three-star prospects.
Syracuse received a verbal commitment from offensive lineman Skylar Harvey on Monday. Like Bowman, Harvey is also a Maryland product.
