Eight Arsenal players have been named in England’s squad for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The tournament, scheduled to take place in the Dominican Republic from October 16 to November 3, will feature some of the brightest young footballers globally, and Arsenal’s significant contribution is central to England’s hopes.
Among the players selected are Laila Harbert and Omotara Junaid, who have already gained valuable first-team experience. Their inclusion highlights the depth of talent being nurtured at the club, suggesting a bright future for the Gunners. England head coach, Natalie Henderson, announced a 21-player squad, including eight Gunners players from the club’s U16 and U21 teams.
This marks England’s third participation in the tournament, having finished fourth in the inaugural edition in 2008 and reaching the quarter-finals in 2016. The team is one of 16 nations aiming to progress beyond the group stages and secure a deep run in the competition.
Arsenal’s Laila Harbert will captain the England side, expressing her pride in an interview with the official website. “Captaining my country is the greatest honour. It comes with a lot of responsibility, but as a team, we’re so united that it’s not just about being one individual. The whole team contributes in their own way, and we use each other’s strengths to our advantage,” Harbert said.
The tournament groups are as follows:
Group A: Dominican Republic, Ecuador, New Zealand, Nigeria.
Group B: Spain, USA, South Korea, Colombia.
Group C: North Korea, Mexico, Kenya, England.
Group D: Japan, Poland, Brazil, Zambia.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
