A trio of Marshalltown High School football players were honored with all-district selection at the conclusion of the fall season.
Bobcat senior linebacker Davis Ragland, junior offensive guard Jaxson Hinkle and sophomore linebacker Jamison Niehouse were named to the Class 5A District 4 first team, leading a group of 12 MHS players honored on the postseason squad.
Five Bobcats were named to the all-district second team — Jonathan Schaeffer, Kyle Smith, Sam Greazel, Lincoln Barker and Mochamad Pramana — and four more received honorable mention — Aiden Smitherman, Jacob Hayes, Johan Gomez and Tyler Englund.
Ragland finished the season as Marshalltown’s leading rusher and top tackler. He carried the football 119 times for 515 yards and five touchdowns, and he led the Bobcat defense with 57.5 tackles and 2.5 quarterback sacks. He had 36 solo tackles and four tackles for loss.
Hinkle led an offensive line that learned a new system dedicated to running the ball, helping the Bobcats total 1,505 rushing yards with 11 touchdowns on the ground this fall.
Niehouse was the team’s third-leading tackler with 33.5 stops, including 6.5 tackles for loss and a half a quarterback sack. He had a team-leading two interceptions to go with a fumble recovery.
Barker, a senior defensive end, finished with 24 tackles this season, securing two sacks and a team-high 7.5 tackles for loss. Greazel, a senior safety, had 16.5 tackles to go with a 19.9 yard kickoff return average that included a 92-yard touchdown return.
Smith, a junior wide receiver, was the team’s top pass-catcher with 13 receptions, 156 yards and three touchdowns. Pramana, a junior defensive back, was fifth on the team with 26.5 tackles, and the sophomore Schaeffer was a starting guard on the offensive line.
Gomez, also a senior defensive end, tallied 19.5 tackles, one sack and four tackles for loss. The junior Smitherman was the team’s third-leading rusher (50-for-188) and second-leading receiver (5-for-149). Hayes, Marshalltown’s junior quarterback, was 33-for-70 passing for 475 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed for 167 yards and two scores.
Englund, a sophomore running back, was the Bobcats’ second-leading rusher with 73 carries for 427 yards and three TDs.
Ragland, Greazel, Hinkle and Niehouse all received first-team all-Iowa Alliance Conference honors as well. Barker, Pramana, Smith and Schaeffer all gained second-team selection, while honorable mention went to Gomez, Smitherman, Hayes and Englund, along with senior linebacker LaMar Johnson, junior linebacker Zak Wilder, and sophomore linebacker JJ Schoenfelder.
