Notre Dame football has quietly moved itself back into the conversation as one of the top teams of the 2024 college football season.
Winners of their last six games, the 11th-ranked Irish (7-1 overall) have bounced back nicely since being upset by Northern Illinois in September and played up to their preseason expectations as a possible national championship contender.
Marcus Freeman’s squad is coming off a dominant two-game stretch against Georgia Tech and Navy in neutral-site games. In those two games against the Yellow Jackets and the Midshipmen, the Irish put up 82 combined points and 851 combined total yards of offense, while their defense only gave up four combined touchdowns.
The Irish’s recent resurgence in the last few weeks has brought Notre Dame back into the conversation for an at-large spot in the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, but it’s on them to maintain that momentum heading into a bye week.
Here’s when the Irish are set to return, including a look at Notre Dame’s remaining schedule:
No, Notre Dame is on its second bye week of the 2024 college football season. Freeman’s squad will return to the gridiron next week when they welcome Florida State (1-7, 1-6 ACC) to Notre Dame Stadium.
The Irish’s contest next Saturday against the Seminoles will be the first meeting between both squads since 2021. It’s also a game that doesn’t weigh as much on a resume as it might have at the start of the season (should Notre Dame win), as Florida State has dropped off significantly from its preseason top-10 ranking.
Notre Dame will then play its final home game of the season in South Bend a week after against Virginia on Nov. 9. The Irish then will travel to Yankees Stadium for the Shamrock Series against No. 21 Army before heading out to Los Angeles to play USC in their regular season finale.
