The Crete boys soccer team went on the road in the B-8 district final and took down Omaha Roncalli 3-1 on Saturday.
The Cardinals trailed early, with Roncalli taking a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes, 25 seconds into the match. However, Crete took a 2-1 lead into halftime, scoring two goals in the last minute before the halftime break.
With 21 minutes left in the match, Crete scored another and held on from there.
The Cardinals advance to next week’s boys state soccer tournament where they will play No. 2 seed Omaha Skutt at noon on Thursday at Morrison Stadium.
B-5 at Plattsmouth: No. 12-seeded Mount Michael upset No. 5 The Platte, 2-1, to clinch a state tournament bid. The Knights converted on a penalty kick in the 36th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Platte tied the match 1-all in the 51st minute, and the two teams played even from there and went into overtime. Mount Michael delivered the deciding goal in the 85th minute.
B-3 at Norris: The Titans dominated Schuyler, winning 10-0 to reach the state tournament for the fourth consecutive year. Boise State commit Kennedy Sullivan led the way with four goals. As the No. 2 seed, Norris drew 3-time defending champion Omaha Skutt in its first-round state tournament match. The SkyHawks have ended the Titans season each of those years.
B-8 at Blair: Scotus Central Catholic hit the road and defeated Blair 4-2. The Shamrocks fell behind 2-0 after the first 15 minutes, but Scotus’s Emma Brezenski turned her play up a notch and netted four goals to lead her team. Scotus will take on No. 1-seeded Gretna East, who is making their first appearance at the state tournament, in the first round.
