During an interview with Brigitte Macron as part of the "pièces jaunes" operation, Deschamps will reportedly announce the decision on TF1's news programme.
Should he officially step down in 2026, he will have spent 14 years at the helm of the national team. According to the report, he made the decision many months ago and 'believes that the time has come to make it official to finally put an end to the debate surrounding his future'.
The idea is to be able to work in a calm environment ahead of France's next two major events: this year's Nations League and the 2026 World Cup.
During his tenure, Deschamps clinched the World Cup in 2018 and the UEFA Nations League in 2021, and secured runner-up finishes at the European Championships in 2016 as well as the World Cup in 2022.
