DETROIT – The Detroit City Football Club has bought the land where the old, decaying Southwest Hospital is located in Corktown.
DCFC is not your average team, and its new stadium will not be a typical structure either.
The architects envision a unique and distinctive home for the team and its fans, promising an experience like no other. They said they are already hard at work crafting such a home.
“It’s key to us that we create a venue that is intimate and memorable and is an appropriate scale where the fans are right on top of the action, but also has modern amenities that we don’t have now,” said DCFC CEO Sean Mann.
The DCFC crew held its owner’s meetings on Monday (May 20) night.
“This is the next step, and we think is the greatest story in American sports,” said Owner Alex Wright.
DCFC gave the public the chance to invest in and become owners of the team, and their owners showed up thrilled at the prospect of what’s to come.
The property has been purchased, but the final financing to build is being worked out.
“You don’t talk about things until they’re done and or they are real,” Wright said.
They’re not done yet but in process, and they envision the stadium as being the home of DCFC and more.
“We have been in talks with other potential users, and so I do not see us just being DCFC,” Mann said. “Those are the types of relationships that are happening now.”
