DuBois Christian School’s Nora Freemer, shown in action earlier this season, scored a goal Friday as the Lady Eagles closed out their season with a 2-2 tie against Centre County Christian.
BELLEFONTE — The DuBois Christian School soccer teams made trip to Bellefonte on Friday to battle Centre County Christian in the regular season finales for both schools.
The girls teams played to a hard-fought 2-2 tie, while host Centre County used a big three-goal first half to hold off the DCS boys, 3-2, and send the Eagles into the postseason with just their third league loss of the season.
In the girls contest, Centre County Christian struck first when Josie Pimentel scored just over three minutes in. DuBois Christian got that goal back by the midway point first of the half when Nora Freemer scored on a shot from about 20 yards out that deflected off a defender in the 15th minute.
However, the hosts regained the lead when Rylee Shipe found the back of the net with 18:14 on the clock and took that 2-1 advantage in to the second half.
The Lady Eagles tied things up again just past the 50th minute when Ella Shenkle bent a corner kick into the box that Jenna Keister scored off of near the post to make it 2-2.
That proved to be all the scoring, as the teams played to a draw in the final 29:48 as the game ended knotted 2-2.
The Lady Eagles finished the season with a 4-7-2 overall record and went 2-6-2 in ACAA West Dvision play.
In the boys game, Centre County Christian jumped out to what appeared to be a commanding 3-0 lead in the opening 23 minutes of the contest.
Mitchell White got Centre County on the board with a goal in the 11th minute, then Ryan Doherty found the back of the net in the 19th minute. The hosts pushed the lead to 3-0 when Evan Gore scored in the 23rd minute.
DuBois Christian grabbed a little momentum late in the first half a nice goal by Caden DeLarme, who scored off a corner kick when he bent his shot into the far corner of the net.
The Eagles then made things interesting after the break when Colten DeLarme dropped a pass to Connor DeLarme and fired a shot from about 15 yards out on the left side that found the back of the net to make it 3-2.
Unfortunately for DuBois Christian, that’s as close as it got as Centre County held on for the 3-2 victory.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 8-4-1 and 6-3-1 in ACAA West Division play but didn’t affect their postseason standings.
DuBois Christian will be the No. 2 seed from the West Division in the ACAA Tournament, which will be hosted by Centre County Christian Thursday through Saturday. Neither of Centre County’s squads qualified for the event.
The Eagles opened tourney play Thursday against East Division No. 3 seed Meadowbrook Christian School at at 4 p.m. The winner advances to play Northumberland County Christian, the No. 1 seed in the east, in the semifinals on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
The loser between DCS and Meadowbrook drops into the fifth-place Friday at 9:15 a.m. where it plays either Juniata Christian School (East No. 2) or Blair County Christian (West No. 3).
