Cristiano Ronaldo and team mates Credit: Al-Nassr Facebook
There is considerable speculation as to whether the man known by the cypher CR7 (Cristiano Ronaldo) will be fit enough and have the commitment to take part in the World Cup 2026.
Portuguese experts as well as players seem to be absolutely convinced that he will certainly keep playing until he is 41 and in fact, there is some thought that he might keep going even longer.
Currently playing in Saudi Arabia for the Al-Nassr club, his friend the Romanian former Chelsea strike and now Coach for Romanian side Petrolul Ploiești, Adrian Mutu recently met with him in Saudi and said that in his opinion Ronaldo would keep playing for several years.
Cristiano Ronaldo Junior who will be 15 this June is on the books of the same club as Ronaldo Senior and according to Mutu, he will want to remain playing for Al-Nassr until his son is old enough to play in the first team with the aim that father and son should appear in at least one senior match.
It won’t be a world’s first as some eight father and son duos have appeared together in the past, the most famous being Brazilian star Rivaldo and son Rivaldinho in both 2014 and 2015 but it would certainly be an important achievement for CR7.
His Portuguese team mate and Manchester United striker Bruno Fernandes told TNT Sports that he is sure that Ronaldo will retain his fitness and go on to captain the Portuguese team in the USA and Canada, assuming that they qualify for the World Cup which whilst not a foregone conclusion seems pretty likely.
Also rooting for Ronaldo are two former Portugal National managers, Luiz Felipe Scolari (2004 World Cup) and Fernando Santos (Euro 2016)  as they are convinced that he wants to even things with Lionel Messi and win the World Cup for Portugal in what would be his sixth attempt.
Although there weren’t the same demands on players, (although pitches and employment conditions were much worse) when he was a professional, Stanley Matthews played in top teams until he was 50, leaving a perfect example for Cristiano Ronaldo.
