The Ireland Women’s Cricket team got their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier campaign off to the perfect start with a six-wicket win over the UAE yesterday.
Set 106 for victory, Ireland comfortably reached the target with 23 balls to spare, with Eimear Richardson impressing with both bat and ball. The all-rounder backed up excellent figures of 2-15 with an unbeaten 22, striking on both fronts at crucial junctures of the match.
This tournament offers a pathway to the T20 World Cup which will take place in Bangladesh later this year.
It is a tournament that Ireland have qualified for in four of the last five renewals, most recently in last year’s delayed edition in South Africa.
It would also be a good opportunity to gain more experience at the highest level and add to the wins that Ireland have secured in the past against Test nations Bangladesh, Pakistan, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The last named will be Ireland’s next opponents at the Zayed Cricket Stadium on Monday, 29 April, before games against the Netherlands and Vanuatu.
The top two teams in each group will go into a Semi-Final with the twoo winners of those securing a place at the World Cup.
Sri Lanka, Thailand and Scotland are among the teams they might face coming out of the other group.
Certa is the official Title sponsor of the Irish Women’s Cricket team.
