Bangladesh lost to South Africa by four runs in a low-scoring thriller in New York at the Twenty20 World Cup but a controversial call by the umpire in the 17th over cost Bangladesh four runs. As per International Cricket Council rules, once the umpire gives a decision the ball is declared dead. However, when the umpire Sam Nogajski gave Mahmadullah out lbw after the Bangladesh batsman missed an inswinging ball from Ottneil Baartman the ball struck Mahmadullah’s front pad and rolled down to the boundary. If the umpire had not given him out, Bangladesh would have had four leg-byes added to their total. After Mahmadullah asked for a decision review under the DRS system, the replay clearly showed the ball was missing the stumps. So he survived but without the four leg-byes.
