MIAMI, Florida – This week in Concacaf is headlined by Concacaf Qualifiers for FIFA World Cup 2026, as the First Round comes to a close.
The second leg matches of the two First Round match-ups will be played on Tuesday to determine which two teams advance to the 30-team Second Round.
The day begins with the British Virgin Islands hosting nearby neighbors the US Virgin Islands. BVI will be looking to make history to advancing past a round in World Cup Qualifying for the first time ever.
The two sides played to a thrilling 1-1 draw in the first leg in the USVI, with BVI earning a crucial away goal on a second half stoppage time goal.
Qualifiers continue with USVI, Anguilla seeking road results
Meanwhile, USVI will be aiming to eliminate BVI from World Cup Qualifying for the second time in their history after having previously accomplished that in 2011 on the road to Brazil 2014.
The second match of the day pits Turks and Caicos Islands taking on Anguilla in the Turks and Caicos Islands. A scoreless draw was the result of last week’s first leg, bringing a halt to Anguilla’s 11-match losing streak in World Cup Qualifying.
Both teams are hoping to win a World Cup Qualifying series for the first time ever. Turks and Caicos Islands did win a qualifying match in the road to South Africa 2010 when they defeated Saint Lucia 2-1 in the first leg of their two-legged series.
