The goal of the USA is to find the toughest opposition possible ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Colombia certainly fits that bill.
In what could be the first of two meetings in the next month. the USA hosts Los Cafeteros in a friendly on Saturday at the Washington Commanders’ FedExField in Landover, Maryland.
Colombia comes into the match with a 21-game unbeaten streak that includes wins over five teams currently ranked in FIFA’s top 20.
Argentine coach Néstor Lorenzo has brought 28 players, two of whom will need to be dropped to get down to the limit of 26 players for the Copa America.

• MLS connection: The squad includes three former MLS players, defenders Santiago Arias and Yerson Mosquera, who started on FC Cincinnati’s 2023 Supporters’ Shield winners and 20-year-old forward Jhon Jáder Durán, who played one season for the Chicago Fire before being transferred to Aston Villa in 2023.

The Cafeteros will hold their first practice on Friday at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia. They will stay and train in Virginia and New York and face Bolivia on June 15 in East Hartford, Connecticut.
Colombia opens play at the Copa America against Paraguay on June 24 in Houston before facing Costa Rica on June 28 in Glendale, Arizona, and Brazil on July 2 in Santa Clara, California.
