The Colombian Football Federation (FCF) announced on Thursday that Nelson Deossa, an uncapped midfielder, has been selected for Colombia’s World Cup qualifying matches against Bolivia and Chile.
The 24-year-old Deossa’s efforts for Pachuca in Mexico’s Liga MX this season have impressed Los Cafeteros boss Nestor Lorenzo.
James Rodriguez, a midfielder for Rayo Vallecano, leads the 29-man roster, which additionally includes Luis Diaz, a winger for Liverpool, and Jhon Duran, a striker for Aston Villa.
Colombia boast an excellent squad. They have proved this many times, and they also reached the final of Copa America 2024. However, they fell short against Argentina, losing 1-0.
During the 2026 World Cup qualifiers games, they have been excellent. In September matches they beat the winners of Copa America 2024, Argentina, 2-1 as they continue their fine form.
However, Rafael Borre, Yerson Mosquera, and Carlos Cuesta were all injured and could not play. Colombia will take on Chile at Barranquilla five days later and Bolivia in El Alto on October 10.
With 16 points following eight matches, Los Cafeteros are now two points behind toppers Argentina in the 10-team South American World Cup qualifying pool. They will hope for the top spot before their World Cup qualifying comes to an end.
