SEC football is many things. As Week 13 of the 2024 college football season showed, boring is certainly not one of them.
A conference already positioned for constant intrigue, with six teams in the top 14 of the most recent US LBM Coaches Poll, added to the drama Saturday with at least one particularly notable result.
No. 9 Ole Miss saw its College Football Playoff hopes suffer a significant, and perhaps fatal, setback Saturday in a 24-17 loss at Florida, the Rebels’ third defeat of the season. The loss from coach Lane Kiffin’s team adds some clarity to the SEC championship and playoff pictures, as Ole Miss entered the day as one of five teams in the conference with two losses.

That wasn’t the only upset of the day, however.
Unranked Oklahoma (6-5, 2-5 in SEC play) dominated No. 7 Alabama (8-3, 4-3) 24-3, forcing three Jalen Milroe turnovers and holding the Crimson Tide to its lowest points total since 2004. Like the Rebels, it seems as though Alabama’s hopes of making the SEC title game and CFP are finished.
Elsewhere, Auburn (5-6, 2-5 SEC) nearly squandered a 21-0 lead over No. 14 Texas A&M (8-3, 5-2), but was able to send the game to overtime. There, the Tigers finally won in the fourth period off a failed Aggies 2-point attempt, winning 43-41 and further thrusting the conference into disarray.
Perhaps no team was a bigger winner than No. 8 Georgia, which rolled past UMass 59-21 following a slow start and somehow found its way back in the SEC championship game following Saturday’s series of SEC upsets.
Following those games, here’s where SEC teams fell in the most recent Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 after Week 13:
