Thursday’s action provides us with just a single matchup in college football bowl games, as the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl arrives at the Caesars Superdome.
This evening, the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl takes centre stage in New Orleans, in what is a chance to end the season on a high note – and maybe snag a few extra stats for the record books. The 7 p.m. ET kickoff promises an intriguing clash between the Georgia Southern Eagles and the Sam Houston Bearkats, two programs rather unfamiliar with each other.
How cool is this?

Georgia Southern QB JC French (@JCFrench_) met Archie Manning when he was six, and got a picture with him.

Tonight at Manning’s, French showed that picture to Mr. Manning. The duo of course took an updated version.

This is the first-ever matchup between these teams, and for bowl game purists, that makes it even more compelling. No past grudges, no baggage – just two sets of players ready to fight for bragging rights.
For Georgia Southern, this marks their seventh bowl appearance in 10 years, with a solid track record indoors (11-7 all-time). They’ll look to repeat their success from their lone Superdome outing, a win in 2020. Watch for running back Jalen White, who’s chasing a spot in the program’s top 10 all-time scorers, and wide receiver Derwin Burgess Jr., who’s one of just two players in school history to surpass 200 career receptions.

Sam Houston, led by veteran coach K.C. Keeler, comes in as one of Conference USA’s toughest teams. This game also features a local connection: Georgia Southern’s Sam Kenerson and Sam Houston’s Da’Veawn Armstead both hail from Baton Rouge’s Central High.
Official: We’ve got a color rush coming to the Caesars Superdome on Thursday.

Georgia Southern will be wearing all blue, and Sam Houston State will be wearing all orange in the New Orleans Bowl.

Tonight’s R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl kicks off on ESPN2, with radio coverage available through the Georgia Southern Sports Network and ESPN Bowl Radio. Georgia Southern (8-4, 6-2 Sun Belt) and Sam Houston (9-3, 6-2 Conference USA) look to impress and cap their seasons with a win before heading off for the festive celebrations.
