COLLEGE FOOTBALL
The big College Football game today, Monday, December 30, is the Transperfect Music City Bowl, featuring a matchup between the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Missouri Tigers, as they aim to cap off the year with a bowl victory.
The game will be held at the Nissan Stadium, Nashville, Tennessee, with action getting underway at 2:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. CT). The Nissan Stadium is the home to the Tennessee Titans.
You can watch it on TV on ESPN and it’s on streaming on the ESPN app and also Fubo.
There are no other Bowl games today. You’ll have to wait till tomorrow for more Bowl action, when there’s a plethora of games, including the Reliaquest Bowl (Alabama vs Michigan), the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl (Louisville vs Washington), Cheez-It Citrus Bowl (South Carolina vs Illinois), Kinder’s Texas Bowl (Baylor v LSU) and the VRBO Fiesta Bowl (Penn State vs Boise State).
Iowa finished the regular season with an 8–4 record, tying for fourth place in the Big Ten Conference. While they fell short of their preseason goal of a 10–2 finish, the Hawkeyes maintained a solid defensive performance throughout the season.
The Hawkeyes averaged 28.0 points per game on offense, ranking 70th nationally. A significant setback is the absence of All-American running back Kaleb Johnson, who has declared for the NFL Draft and opted out of the game. In his stead, Iowa will rely on running backs Kamari Moulton and Jaz Patterson. Quarterback Brendan Sullivan, returning from injury, is expected to lead a more dynamic offense incorporating increased passing and run-pass option (RPO) plays.
Iowa’s defense has been formidable, allowing just 17.1 points per game, placing them 9th nationally. Key defensive contributors include linebackers Jay Higgins and Nick Jackson. However, the secondary may face challenges due to the absence of top cornerback Jermari Harris.
Missouri concluded the regular season with a 9–3 record, securing a 5–3 mark in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Their performance earned them the No. 19 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings. The Tigers are looking to build on this success and carry momentum into the 2025 season.
The Tigers averaged 29.1 points per game on offense, ranking 58th nationally. Quarterback Brady Cook has been instrumental in leading the offense, particularly noted for his impressive return from injury against Auburn, contributing to a significant comeback win.
Missouri’s defense allowed 20.1 points per game, placing them 19th nationally. The defensive unit has been pivotal in securing key victories throughout the season, including a notable performance in their 28-21 win over Arkansas at the end of November.
