LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Five plays into the Class D2 state championship game, Central Valley had a 6-0 lead over Riverside. Less than five minutes later, the Cougars scored again.
Then, a Zaden Wolf 60-yard touchdown run capped a 24-point first quarter scoring explosion by Central Valley. The three drives spanned 175 yards and on just 12 total plays.
The Cougars’ quick start helped the co-op win its first state championship, 52-12 at Memorial Stadium.
Wolf finished with 153 rushing yards and three TDs. Kelly Grady added 92 yards on the ground, while Luke Shoemaker rushed for 38 yards and a score.
Central Valley, the No. 4 seed in the playoffs, rolled through the post-season averaging 56 points. Riverside finished the season with a 9-3 record.
