Highest-ever Men’s National Team Ranking caps off thrilling 2024 for CANMNT
Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team have moved up four spots in the latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking, rising to #31. This marks the highest FIFA ranking in CANMNT history beating the previous high of #33 in February 2022.
2024 saw one of the most successful years in Men’s National Team history.
In March, Canada qualified for their first-ever Copa América after defeating Trinidad & Tobago (#96*) in a one-game playoff in Frisco, Texas.
Following the hiring of MLS Canada Head Coach of the Men’s National Team Jesse Marsch, Canada played two away friendlies against the Netherlands (#7*) and France (#2*) in which they posted a defeat in Rotterdam and a draw in Bordeaux.
They then went on to achieve a historic result of fourth at the CONMEBOL Copa América USA 2024. Canada defeated Peru (#31*) and Venezuela (#54*), drew Chile (#40*) and were defeated by Argentina (#1*) twice, and Uruguay (#14*) on penalty kicks in the third place match.
Canada defeated the United States (#16*) for the first time on U.S. soil since 1957 in an international friendly in September. They then drew Mexico (#17*) in an international friendly in the same window at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
CANMNT then returned home for their first home game in 11 matches, defeating Panama (#37*) in an international friendly in front of Canadian supporters in Toronto.
Finally, Canada qualified for the 2025 Concacaf Nations League Finals and 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup following two home and away wins against Suriname (#136*).
Overall, CANMNT posted an official record of six wins, five draws and three losses in 2024.
Canada now look ahead to the 2025 Concacaf Nations League Finals, where they will play Mexico in the semi-finals. The match will be played on 20 March 2025 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Following the Nations League Finals, Canada will play in the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup, set to begin in June across 12 host cities in the United States and Vancouver.
