CAMDEN, S.C. — In her final appearance in a home athletics contest, Joyce Edwards left her mark in soccer as she has done in volleyball and basketball.
Edwards scored all three goals in a 3-2 win over Philip Simmons in the Class 3A Lower State semifinals.
The Bulldogs will play at Waccamaw Tuesday night with the winner advancing to the state finals.
Edwards generated national headlines on the basketball court as the #2 ranked national prospect who signed with South Carolina before being named the Gatorade National High School Girls Player of the Year. Edwards led Camden to back-to-back 3A state championships.
But she has also shown her ability to play at a high level in volleyball and soccer. She was named a North-South All-Star in volleyball and in soccer, she was named All-State in a junior and is poised to earn that award again as a senior.
A former News19 Player of the Week, Joyce and her teammates posed for a picture at the famous bell at Zemp Stadium minutes after the win over Philip Simmons. While it marked the last home match for the 2024 Camden girls soccer team, it also was the last time Joyce will compete in a home sporting event at Camden High School.

But she will have at least one more match in Camden colors when the Bulldogs travel to Waccamaw for Tuesday’s 3A semifinal match.
