MLS preseason camps will begin opening up across the league here soon.
The offseason timeline is always intriguing. The regular season ends for a club like FC Dallas and time slows down a bit in October and November. But once the calendar flips to December, time speeds up again.
And now, we’re in almost in January.
Within a blink of an eye, preseason camp is set to begin around Major League Soccer next weekend.
As of this writing, we don’t know FC Dallas’s full plans for the preseason, but we do know they’re heading to Spain again at some point.
With preseason camps set to begin, it felt like an appropriate time to dive back into the FC Dallas roster build for 2025. For a little recap, here is where things stood in our previous roster-building series from a few weeks ago left us:
Following the 2024 season, FC Dallas made several roster cuts and then made a slew of moves between MLS Cup and Christmas.
For those keeping track, that is ten players officially out with potentially another three potentially joining them (I highly doubt we’ll see Ruan and Asier Illarramendi back in Frisco…maybe Patrickson Delgado could return…maybe). Coming in this winter has been a small but interesting set of five new players and three unsigned draft picks.
Simple, right? Well, nothing is truly simple in MLS roster building. As we’ve seen in recent years, draft picks tend to be stashed away with North Texas SC. Some Homegrown products go on loan, and other moves tend to pop up before the start of a new season.
You also have to consider how MLS teams can build their rosters. They are given 18-20 slots for the senior roster (the area that deals with the salary cap) and ten supplemental roster spots help free up some cap space for some younger players.
Based on these moves, I see the current roster looking like this:
