Bobby Hurley, Voice of the World Cup, Joins Social Kick Podcast (Video)
The final stop of this year’s World Cup series will unfold from Thursday through Saturday in Singapore, and Bobby Hurley will once again call the action. The former Australian star has been a longtime staple of the World Cup tour, and has also been a commentator for various World Championships through the years.
Recently, Hurley sat down with the hosts of the Social Kick Podcast – Luke Paddington, Bryan Lundquist and John Mullen – to discuss recent World Cup performances, including world records in South Korea by Americans Kate Douglass (200 breaststroke) and Regan Smith (100 backstroke). Hurley’s passion for the World Cup circuit and the sport of swimming is immeasurable, and he took time during his interview to discuss how the series can develop in the coming years.
During his competition days, Hurley was a mainstay for Australia in international meets and once set the world record in the short-course version of the 50-meter backstroke. At the 2009 World Championships in Rome, Hurley helped Australia to a bronze medal in the 800 freestyle relay. He was also a five-time medalist at the World Short Course Championships, including gold in the 50 backstroke at the 2012 edition of the meet.
