Black Stars have been tasked with upping their game to book their tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a poor performance in the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers.
Grouped alongside Angola, Sudan, and Niger, Ghana, under coach Otto Addo, had failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, finishing dead last in the qualifiers. The poor display of the team sparked frustration among fans as calls for Addo’s sack were widespread.
Despite the backlash, Otto Addo seems to have been given another chance to drive the Black Stars to the World Cup.
With less than a year to go until crucial World Cup qualifiers, Samuel Aboabire, the Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association, has called for an improved show from the players.
“I call upon the Black Stars players to lift up their game. There is pressure on the GFA from recent performances of the team, while the President Kurt Okraku expects much from us,” Aboabire told Onua TV in an interview.
He added, “Ghana has been unlucky in 2024 in terms of the national team performances, but we hope things get better in 2025.”
Ghana currently has a good standing in the World Cup qualifiers, where they will be keen on topping for automatic qualification at the end.
