Colorado football is one of two Big 12 teams vying for the final spot in the Big 12 championship as the last games of the regular season nears completion.
The team that emerges will face Arizona State on Dec. 7 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Arizona State clinched a spot in the conference championship with its 49-7 win over in-state rival Arizona on Saturday and TCU’s win over Cincinnati. The Big 12 announced nine teams remained in contention heading into the final weekend of the regular season, although that number had dwindled down to Colorado and Iowa State for the final spot near the end of Saturday’s games.
With Colorado beating Oklahoma State on Friday and Iowa State beating Kansas State on Saturday, the scenarios for the Big 12 championship matchup (and a chance to reach the College Football Playoff) will come down the result of BYU’s game against Houston late Saturday night.
BYU was eliminated from contention with Iowa State’s win.
Here’s a look at the Big 12 tiebreaker scenarios and what needs to happen for each of the remaining teams to reach Arlington, Texas:

There are two scenarios still in play to break the ties in the Big 12 championship race, accounting for Arizona State already securing a berth and wins by Colorado and Iowa State:
Arizona State and Iowa State would reach the Big 12 championship game.
Arizona State and Colorado would reach in this scenario, as the Buffaloes would earn the tiebreaker over Iowa State due to Texas Tech beating West Virginia on Saturday.
