Compétition : World Cup
Sun and clouds on Sunday afternoon in windy Portimao with a dry track and 23° for the Final of the FIA Karting World Cup – KZ2.
Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART/TM) and Matheus Morgatto (Birel ART/TM) got off to a perfect start when the lights went out, but Daniel Vasile (Birel ART/TM) went off at high speed in the first corner and the slow procedure was initiated. The driver was not injured and the race restarted with a green flag on the fifth lap. Bertuca got off to the perfect start and pulled a second clear of Morgatto, with Paavo Tonteri (CRG/TM) hot on his heels. Dion van Werven (Sodi/TM) was 4th ahead of Genis Civico (Tony Kart/Vortex), then Artem Severiukhin (Birel ART/TM) attacked Jean Nomblot (Sodi/TM) for 6th position. Severiukhin overtook Civico in the process. Alessio Piccini (Parolin/TM) had moved up nine places to 16th and Gabriel Gomez (CRG/TM) had moved up 10 places to 18th. Morgatto closed to within 3 tenths of the leader Bertuca. Severiukhin attacked van Werven for 4th place. The outcome remained uncertain as the race approached the finish, with a gap of less than 2 tenths on the last lap. Bertuca won after a faultless run throughout the meeting. Morgatto was a very close second at 0.283‘’, while Tonteri finished 3rd, 5 tenths back. Severiukhin took 4th place ahead of van Werven, closely followed by Nomblot. Maksim Orlov (Parolin/TM) was 7th, Civico 8th, Anatoly Khavalkin (Parolin/TM) 9th and Gianni Andrisani (KR/TM) 10th. Piccini was up 12th, Gomez 14th, Malo Bolliet (CRG/TM) 20th and Arthur Poulain (Sodi/TM) 22nd. Spirgel dropped back to 27th after a penalty and Corentin Rousseau (Birel ART/TM) was penalised 33rd.
