Earlier today, FC Barcelona received the good news of Ronald Araujo’s medical clearance, as he was named in the squad list for tomorrow’s UEFA Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund.
The Uruguayan has been given the green light to return to play 157 days after his injury during the Copa America, when he was forced off 30 minutes into the match against Brazil.
It has been 129 days since the Uruguayan centre-back has been covered by FIFA’s Club Protection Programme.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, FIFA began paying daily amounts to Barcelona from 3rd August, when the player had been inactive for 28 consecutive days.
Taking all this into account, FIFA will now the Blaugrana with over €2.6 million, specifically a total of €2,650,692.
The FIFA’s Club Protection Programme aims to provide compensation, based on the player’s fixed salary, to football clubs if players taking part in an international tournament or international duty are absent for “more than 28 consecutive days due to bodily injuries caused by an accident during match-related activities”.
The programme offers a maximum indemnity of €7.5 million per player and injury, calculated according to a daily compensation of up to €20,548 per day, with a cap of 365 days. The maximum total capacity of FIFA’s Club Protection Programme is €80 million per year.
In light of these figures for Araujo, FIFA will have paid close to €10 million for the major recent injuries of Barcelona players.
The €2.65 million for Araujo will be added to the compensation for Gavi and Pedri.
Gavi, who was absent for a total of 307 days due to an ACL injury sustained last November, resulted in FIFA paying out €6,308,236 in compensation.
Additionally, the Catalans received €308,220 for Pedri’s injury during the last European Championship. When combining all three amounts, the total compensation for Barcelona will amount to €9,267,148.
