While much has been said regarding Saudi Arabia hosting the 2034 FIFA World Cup, Barcelona fans are particularly excited by the prospect of Spain, Portugal and Morocco hosting the 2030 World Cup.
To that end, Camp Nou has emerged as one of the potential candidates to host the 2030 World Cup final, alongside the likes of Santiago Bernabeu and Gran Estadio Hassan II.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona City Council has expressed strong confidence in Spotify Camp Nou’s ability to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup final, maintaining that the city boasts “the best bid” among potential venues.
This sentiment was expressed by David Escude, Barcelona’s Sports Councillor, during the presentation of the Sustainable Mobility Plan for the partial return of sporting activity to the stadium.
Escude emphasized Camp Nou’s suitability by highlighting its world-class infrastructure and the city’s extensive experience in hosting major sporting events.
“We know that we have the best bid of all the existing ones,” Escude said. “We can be proud and optimistic. Camp Nou is one of the stadiums where the opening or the final are planned, being one of the best stadiums in the championship without a doubt.”
Escude also quashed speculation over RFEF potentially picking Santiago Bernabeu as the final destination, reminding everyone that the venue will be decided by a FIFA committee.
With the ongoing renovations expected to increase its capacity to nearly 104,000 spectators, Spotify Camp Nou, along with the Gran Estadio Hassan II in Casablanca (with a projected capacity of 115,000), is poised to be among the largest and most impressive venues for the 2030 World Cup.
Barcelona themselves are excited to return to Spotify Camp Nou next year, which is expected to happen sometime around the end of the first quarter of 2025.
