Barbados-born Chris Jordan eyes T20 World Cup success, draws inspiration from Kensington Oval memories – caribbeannationalweekly.com

England all-rounder Chris Jordan, born in Barbados, remains grounded about his selection for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup, focusing on making a significant impact during the tournament, particularly at the familiar Kensington Oval next month.
Despite not featuring in an international match for nearly eight months, the 35-year-old seamer, lower-order batsman, and slip-catcher earned his place in England’s 15-man squad for the June 1-29 campaign in the Caribbean and the United States. Jordan’s consistent performances in franchise T20 cricket, amassing 368 wickets from 355 appearances, kept him on selectors’ radar.
Reflecting on his unexpected call-up, Jordan said, “I wasn’t expecting the call, but I never ruled it out either.” He emphasized the importance of franchise form and adapting his batting strategy to suit different situations, highlighting his meticulous preparation and focus on opposition analysis.
Jordan’s Barbadian upbringing and experience playing at Kensington Oval add a valuable dimension to England’s squad. With England scheduled to play their opening matches against Namibia and Australia at the historic venue, Jordan’s familiarity with the conditions could prove pivotal, especially with the final also set to take place there.
Sharing his sentiments about Kensington Oval, Jordan recalled childhood memories of playing finals and watching his first cricket match between West Indies and England. He emphasized the significance of understanding Caribbean conditions, particularly the impact of cross winds during day games.
Looking ahead to the tournament, Jordan stressed the importance of maintaining a high level of intensity, considering England’s status as defending champions. He emphasized the need for England to match or surpass the intensity of other teams while acknowledging the challenge of being the hunted team.
Jordan expressed confidence in England’s T20 pedigree, citing their strong performances in recent World Cups. He emphasized the team’s track record of reaching the finals, semi-finals, and ultimately clinching the title in 2022, highlighting their resilience and competitiveness in the format.
With his unique blend of experience, skill, and local knowledge, Jordan is poised to play a crucial role in England’s quest for success in the Caribbean showpiece.
