Bangladesh have included Taskin Ahmed into their 15-member T20 World Cup squad despite an injury. Taskin, named the vice-captain, suffered a side strain during the recent series against Zimbabwe. He will now race against time to be fully fit for the tournament that gets underway on 1 June.
Taskin picked up the injury ahead of the fifth T20I against Zimbabwe on 12 May and missed the contest as a result. For his eight wickets in four games, he was named Player of the Series.
Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead Bangladesh at the tournament in West Indies and USA with experience head in Shakib Al Hasan also part of the squad. Shakib has played every T20 World Cup since the inaugural edition in 2007.
Shakib, who had been struggling with an eye problem, returned to T20I cricket after a gap of nearly a year this month in the home series against Zimbabwe, claiming five wickets in two matches.
Litton Das has found a place in the 15-man squad despite his poor performances in white-ball cricket this year.
Bangladesh’s first match of the tournament will be against Sri Lanka on 8 June in Dallas, Texas. Other teams in Bangladesh’s group at the T20 World Cup are South Africa, the Netherlands and Nepal.
