Auburn family. Please continue to pray for Brian Battie. There was a set back last night and he’s still on a ventilator. #AUSTRONG
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting left Battie’s brother, Tommie L. Battie IV, dead at the scene. Officials say four other victims, including Brian Battie, were transported to nearby hospitals in Manatee and Sarasota counties. There is no word on the three other victims’ conditions.
According to the Auburn University Athletic website, Tommie L. Battie IV is listed as a relative to Auburn University Running Back Brian Battie.
A Go-fund me has been set up for the Battie family. As of Monday, over $61,000 has been raised.
Deputies say they responded to the 3400 block of 17th Street, near the Tallywood Centre Plaza, at around 3:30 a.m. Officials observed a large crowd with multiple shooting victims in the parking lot. They say one of the victims, later identified as 24-year-old Tommie Battie, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
We are working to confirm this from officials, but sources say Brian Battie is in the ICU and able to move his hands. Doctors do not know how much brain functionality he has at this moment.
