Arizona State football’s superstar running back, Cam Skattebo, gave Texas’ defense a rough time in the Peach Bowl on Wednesday.
His stomach, however, gave Skattebo a rough time. In fact, Skattebo vomited quite a bit on the sideline during the game. Skattebo was heroically able to overcome that sickness with 284 all-purpose yards.
However, nobody truly knew the real story behind why Skattebo was forced to puke-and-rally his way to a Peach Bowl Offensive Most Valuable Player award. That is until Thursday, when Skattebo explained what really went down on the “Dan Patrick Show.”
“I think I was drinking a little too much water and Powerade,” Skattebo said. “And I think I ate something bad in the morning. I had a croissant breakfast sandwich, and I don’t think it went down very well. And I wasn’t feeling too good leading up to the game. Until I threw up.
“I threw up and I felt like a completely different person. And after that throw up, the game switched for me and how I was playing. It was completely different for me.”
The incident fueled Skattebo’s production which amounted to 143 yards on 30 carries and two rushing touchdowns, throwing a 42-yard touchdown pass and catching eight passes for 99 yards. He had a hand in all three of the Sun Devils‘ touchdowns against a Texas defense that ranks third in the country in points per game allowed (14.5).
“I looked down, took a deep breath, puked, took another deep breath, took another deep breath, and then got back on the field and played my game of football,” Skattebo said. “I leaned over, let it all out, then got back up and put my helmet on and was like, ‘Let’s go.'”
