During the #WBCHamburg24 Annual Convention, a magnificent project was unveiled: The Riyadh Season Boxing World Cup. This tournament seeks to discover promising young prospects at a world level and will kick off in 2025
The first edition of this “Grand Prix” features four weight divisions: Featherweight, Super Lightweight, Middleweight, and Heavyweight. A total of 128 boxers from all continents will fight for glory.
“My father, Don Jose, had a very special dream,” said WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman. “He envisioned a world cup that gives opportunities to all fighters. We have partnered with the Riyadh Season to make this dream a reality.”
“As a boxing fan, we’ve been dedicated to supporting the sport for the past 14 months,” stated His Excellency Turki Alalshikh. “The Riyadh Season Boxing World Cup is a continuation of that commitment. This was a great man’s dream, and we’re honored to help fulfill it.”
About the Riyadh Season Boxing World Cup
The tournament aims to discover the next generation of boxing stars. It will be divided into five events with 128 boxers battling for glory. The “Grand Prix” starts with quarterfinals, featuring eight-round fights. The finals will be scheduled to ten rounds.
Eligibility
Age Limit: 26 years old
Record: No more than 15 professional bouts
Weight Divisions: Featherweight, Super Lightweight, Middleweight, and Heavyweight
