(Maryville) — The Maryville boys soccer program continued their winning tradition this past year. And KMA Sports is continuing a tradition of our own in honoring one of the Spoofhounds as the area’s top player.
Senior defensive midfielder Anmol Prabhakar follows up back-to-back wins for the graduated Kason Teale as the KMAland Missouri Boys Soccer Player of the Year.
“At the beginning of the year, we didn’t really know how our formation was going to look,” Prabhakar said. “We tried lots of different things and eventually found a formation that would work. It was just great seeing how a complete new team was able to make it to the district final.”
Prabhakar had plenty do with that, controlling the field and finishing the season with eight goals and five assists.
“I had to play a little more aggressive since most of our offense left,” Prabhakar said. “Kason Teale was one of our best players on offense, and so I tried to step in as his role as captain and as an offensive player.”
Prabhakar helped Maryville to a 10-6-1 record and a strong push in the postseason after they won a combined 46 matches during his first three seasons.
“I knew I was going to be nervous,” Prabhakar said of his expanding role. “I knew that I had to step in because I was one of the returning players, and we were going to get a completely new team. I had to make sure to fit that role. I tried to be confident and talk with everyone. It really helped me to get to know everyone and let everyone know that I was not only a great player but a friend who could talk to them.”
As Prabhakar closes out his soccer career, he’s proud to reflect on all that was accomplished during his time as a Spoofhound.
“One of my favorite parts was all the teammates,” he said. “I enjoyed every time I spent with them. Just getting to talk to them and getting to know them. It motivated me, especially during my sophomore year. I got to know the boys a lot more, and that was probably my favorite part in the entire four seasons.”
