Andrés Cubas called up to Paraguay's national team for 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup Qualifiers in November – Vancouver Whitecaps FC

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Andrés Cubas has been called up to Paraguay’s national team for upcoming CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup Qualifiers in November.

The Designated Player will be joining his national team for a pair of matches in the third round of qualifiers. First up, Paraguay face Chile on Thursday, November 16 at Estadio Monumental David Arellano in Macul, Chile, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m. PT.
Cubas and his country will wrap up their third round of qualifiers on Tuesday, November 21 as they host Colombia at Estadio Defensores del Chaco. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. PT.
Paraguay currently sit seventh in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying table with a record of 1W-2L-1D.
Born in Argentina, Cubas has represented Paraguay at the international level 16 times since 2020, making 14 starts in World Cup Qualifying, Copa America and friendly competition. Cubas previously played for Argentina at the U-20 level, where he started two of his three appearances for the side at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
In 2023, Cubas started 36 of his 37 appearances across all competitions for the ‘Caps, recording four assists and earning himself the club’s Player of the Month award for March. The midfielder also finished the MLS regular season in sixth for interceptions for interceptions (50) and led the ‘Caps in tackles won (40). In addition, Cubas was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for his performance against Los Angeles FC on Matchday 21. Back in July, Cubas agreed to a Designated Player contract extension with the ‘Caps through to the end of 2026, with a club option for 2027.
All-time, Cubas has made 55 starts and 57 appearances since joining Whitecaps FC, adding a goal as well as four assists.
