BATTLE CREEK – It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.
Marshall demonstrated that as the Redhawks were playing their best soccer at the end of the year and went undefeated down the stretch in league play and won an Interstate 8 Conference title.
For helping to navigate his team through a rough start, and a strong finish, Marshall’s Hans Morgan is the 2024 All-Enquirer Boys Soccer Team Coach of the Year.
The All-Enquirer Boys Soccer Team is selected by nominations from the city and area coaches and voted on by the Enquirer sports staff.

Marshall had a slow start to the season, but was rolling late as the Redhawks went 7-3-2 in their final 12 games of the regular season. Marshall won the Interstate 8 Conference title with a 5-0-1 league record, beating eventual district champion Coldwater in the final league game of the year. Both Coldwater and Marshall entered the game unbeaten in league play, making that game a virtual final as Marshall was conference champs for the first time in three years.
Morgan helped Marshall to an 8-8-1 record overall and is joined on the All-Enquirer team by Redhawk players Ben Baker, Ronnie Gill and John Meyer.
Harper Creek finished as All-City tourney champs and adds Beaver players Alex LaFleur, Philip Moerchen and Rodrigo Nunez to the All-Enquirer team.
Also from the city, making the team, are Lakeview’s James Ram and Alonson Campos, Pennfield’s Brady Conley and Garrett Hill, Battle Creek Central’s Alexander Small and Christian Cardoso-Cortes as well as a trio from the Calhoun Chritian/St. Philip team in Johann Albarran, Stephen Andren and Owen Vanderbilt.
Among the area teams, Coldwater had a standout season and won its first district title in eight years as the Cardinals are represented by Dawood Gabry, Francisco Ramos and Samuel Pernia. Elsewhere, Gull Lake adds Ethan Waldorf and Cole Guilfoyle to the team, and Olivet’s Connor Toburen, Drew Garcia and Logan Giguere make the squad.
