Set up the future of U.S. women’s national team players for generations to come.
In a candid conversation on the “Not Gonna Lie” podcast with Kylie Kelce, U.S. soccer star Alex Morgan opened up about her career, reflecting on her most significant achievements.
While the 2019 World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist has numerous accolades to her name while playing for the U.S. women’s national team, Morgan revealed that the accomplishment she’s most proud of is the landmark victory for equal pay in international soccer.
Alex Morgan says equal pay was a greater achievement than winning World Cup
“If someone asked [what] my greatest achievement [was], I don’t know [if I would say] that it’s my biggest goal I ever scored, or the World Cup or the Olympics — It’s achieving equal pay on the international stage” said Morgan.
“And [helping] create that sort of butterfly effect that helped other women in other countries and in the U.S., with their leagues and their teams fight for equality in their sport and outside of their sport too.

“I was part of the Athletes Council, and I would see people on other councils step up and say ‘you guys don’t deserve as much as you’re trying to get, you’re going to be taking away from kids’ and I’m like ‘we’re not trying to take away anything from anyone else, we’re just trying to get what we deserve.’
“We had a great argument, a great PR team, great legal team and achieved equal pay…” she added.
The landmark achievement came in 2022 when the U.S. Soccer Federation and the U.S. women’s national team reached a historic agreement that ensured equal pay between the men’s and women’s teams. Morgan, alongside fellow players, played a pivotal role in the fight for pay equity, which included the implementation of equal World Cup prize money and equal share of commercial revenue.
