Padelski made an appearance in all six matches and tallied two goals for the United States
SANTIAGO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic –– Alabama soccer’s Madeline Padelski and the United States Under-17 World Cup team earned a bronze medal Sunday with a 3-0 victory against England in the third-place game.
Padelski scored the final goal of the match in the 92nd minute of action. The goal was her second of the tournament after netting the United States’ fifth goal against Korea Republic. Padelski would score against England off a through ball, setting her up to dribble into the box and play a low ball past the keeper.
Earlier in the tournament, Padelski scored a goal to help the U.S. reach the knock out stage. She netted the final goal in a 5-0 victory against Korea Republic, dribbling down the left side of the field before cutting the ball around a defender and onto her right foot. She fired a shot from the top of the box to secure the fifth goal of the match in the 87th minute.
The United States recorded its best finish at the Under-17 World Cup since 2008, earning a bronze medal with its win over England. The U.S. won silver during the tournament’s inaugural year in 2008.
In addition to its 3-0 win over England, the United States defeated Nigeria 2-0 in the quarterfinals as well as Korea Republic, 5-0, and Colombia, 2-0 in the group stage. The team lost 1-0 to North Korea in the semifinal match and 3-1 to Spain in group play.
