USWNT drops to all-time low in June FIFA rankings – Pro Soccer Wire

Despite good recent results, the U.S. women’s national team fell to fifth in June’s FIFA women’s rankings, marking a new low for a team used to being at the top of the pile.
Emma Hayes started her time as the USWNT’s coach with two big wins over South Korea, and the U.S. is currently on a seven-game unbeaten run. That includes victories over top-10 opponents Brazil and Japan, which saw the USWNT’s score in the rankings system go up.
However, with the USWNT’s SheBelieves Cup matches carrying less weight in those rankings than competitive play, teams in Europe — who only recently completed their Olympic qualifying process — had more opportunities to accumulate points since the last rankings were released in March.
World Cup champion Spain have predictably stayed atop the rankings, while France has climbed to second at England’s expense. Germany, after claiming UEFA’s second spot in the upcoming Olympics, leapfrogged the USWNT to move up to fourth.
