Two Year Countdown Until Kickoff of the Seattle FIFA World Cup 2026 – My Everett News

June 12, 2024
Beyond Everett, Everett Sports
In just two years, Canada, Mexico, and the USA will host FIFA World Cup 2026™, with Saturday, June 15th marking two years until the tournament kicks off locally. Seattle will host six matches in 2026: two in the knock-out round and four in the first-round group-stage including matches on Juneteenth welcoming the US Men’s National team and a kickoff to Pride weekend.
Today, FIFA released a more detailed version of the tournament’s match schedule (pdf), first revealed in February of this year.
The schedule is now color-coded and spotlights teams’ possible pathways in steering their way from the group-stage to the final. Seattle remains one of only two cities guaranteed to host the US Men’s National Team.
Looking at the Schedule, the Seattle area will host a game June 15th, June 19th (USA Men), June 24th, June 26th, July 1st, and July 7th.
Statement from Seattle FIFA World Cup 2026 CEO, Peter Tomozawa on the two-year benchmark:
“We are proud and excited by the work underway to welcome the world to Washington State. The foundation of our preparations is a great team — executing our vision of a safe, memorable, and exciting FIFA World Cup experience. While the matches will be played at Seattle’s Lumen Field, our work and legacy building is statewide– and soon we’ll be announcing locations for fan zones, watch parties, and practice facilities in communities throughout Washington.
Our safety and transportation plans are moving forward, and our partnerships with Seattle and other cities, the State legislature, and private sector partners will help us secure the resources and coordination needed to be fully prepared by June 2026.
Beyond the six matches hosted in Seattle, we are committed to leaving a positive generational impact on our region and state. Alongside our Legacy Partners, the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, we are making plans and investments in accessibility, sustainability, human rights, culture, community, and children. We’ll have more to report on all of these activities soon– and over the next two years as we build momentum, enthusiasm, and support for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
