CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Salt Lake City is among the cities being considered by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association as a potential Team Base Camp during the 2026 World Cup. The other cities are Chattanooga, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Green Bay, Wisconsin, Louisville, Kentucky, St. Louis, San Antonio, and Westfield, Indiana.
 
According to the Associated Press, FIFA released more details about the upcoming 2026 tournament on Wednesday.  The 2026 World Cup is expected to begin on June 11, 2026, in Mexico City. 
KSL Sports producer Chandler Holt said a Team Base Camp can be considered a home base for international teams.  From their home base, teams will travel to other states for group matches throughout the competition.
The two potential sites in Utah are the University of Utah and the Real Salt Lake Training Center.
This will be the first World Cup to be played in three separate nations. In addition, the 2026 World Cup will be the first to expand to include 48 countries. FIFA plans to hold 78 of 104 games in the United States and 13 each in Mexico and Canada.
The World Cup-proposed sites in Mexico are Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey.
Currently, there has been no decision from FIFA on Canada’s sites.
Specific sites for matchups games in the round of 32, 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals have also been released according to FIFA.
