LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A former Husker linebacker is facing a felony assault charge after a St. Patrick’s Day bar fight.
Mitchel Reeves, 41, appeared in court Tuesday on one count of first-degree assault.
Shortly after 10 p.m. on March 17, Reeves got into a fight with another customer at Down the Hatch in northwest Lincoln, according to court documents.
A bartender who had just finished his shift separated the two, only to be punched by Reeves, police said.
A “disturbance ensued,” and Reeves left the bar before police arrived, an arrest affidavit says.
Police said the bartender suffered a broken nose.
Staff looked through the bar tabs on the computer system to find out Reeves’ name.
They told officers that they had problems with Reeves before, according to the affidavit.
Lancaster County Judge Laurie Yardley issued a warrant for Reeves’ arrest on June 5. He was taken into custody two days later in Saunders County, where he lives.
On Tuesday, Yardley set Reeves’ bond at $5,000. He paid $500 to be released from jail.
Reeves is scheduled to be in court again on July 11.
He played for Nebraska in 2003 and 2004.
