Originally a Sioux Falls native, Sam came to Rapid City and fell in love with the Black Hills. She decided that she wanted to make western South Dakota her home. Recently, Sam graduated from the School of Mines with an M.S. in Atmospheric Sciences and is very excited to share her love of the weather at NewsCenter1.
RAPID CITY, S.D. – The 35th Annual Rushmore Cup has broken its record this year with over 190 soccer teams competing in the tournament at the MFS Sport Complex in Rapid City.
This year marks one of the largest turnouts in the tournament’s history, with teams traveling from Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and other regions to compete.
Officials from the Black Hills Rapids Soccer Club expressed their excitement and gratitude for the community’s support.
“I’d really like to thank the community and all of our sponsors for all their support,” said Chad Lewis, a member of the Board of Directors for BH Rapids.
“It’s been really important. And, you know, there’s thousands of kids out here and families right now celebrating and having a fun time and bringing money to our region. So, we appreciate it.”
The tournament featured a wide range of age groups, from elementary schoolers to high schoolers, and even included adult recreational teams.
Lewis also mentioned that the club’s annual “Fright Fest” soccer tournament in the fall will conclude the tournaments for this year. The Rushmore Cup returns next year. For more information about the Black Hills Rapids Tournament, head over to their website here.
